SEMINARY GARAGE

The existing garage had finally dilapidated to the point where the homeowners felt it was time to be replaces. Their backyard was already narrow, so they wanted to expand their outdoor space by adding a deck on the top of the garage. To utilize the space to its fullest potential, the garage was built from structural brick, similar in shape and size as a CMU block, but had the warmth the owner was seeking. The steel structure was exposed and expressed wrapped over the deck to allow for a canopy to rest on it for some shaded space. With the yard so narrow the garage wall facing the house was lowered so that it does not feel like it encroaches on the house. Landscaping and corten panels help additionally soften the mass of the wall.
