RITA ATKINSON HOUSING, USCD

Working with Valerio Dewalt Train, Searl Lamaster Howe oversaw the furnishings of this new LEED Gold Certified graduate student housing complex on the grounds of the University of California’s San Diego campus. The $59 million development is a nine-floor structure comprised of 226 two-bedroom units and amenity spaces. Through rigorous coordination and teamwork, the project was completed, on budget, a full year ahead of the original schedule. Bright colors, bold shapes, and durable materials characterize the interior design which complements the spirit of the building itself and is tailored to the tastes and preferences of the graduate student population. Thus far the project has received two AIA awards.
